Chan Yih-Shin returns to defend his title at the Venetian Macau Open
Chan Yih-Shin of Chinese Taipei is set to defend his title, when he tees off at this week’s Venetian Macau Open. The Asian Tour event will be played at the Macau Golf and Country Club, from October 11 to 14, 2012.
Last year, Yih-Shin outshined his opponents in the field and recorded the second Asian Tour title victory of his career.
This season, the Taiwanese failed to keep the momentum going and missed the cut a number of times.
However, he managed to record a third-place finish at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters two weeks ago, which, according to him, will provide him a boost, ahead of the US$750,000 event in Macau.
“I’ve got a good feeling. It is nice to see my pictures on the posters and promotional items which is very good. I’ve got a good feeling about this week again,” he said.
He added, “It is always nice to be back in a place where you’ve won. I know I haven’t played well all season but I finished third at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters two weeks ago which gave me back some confidence. I hope to turn the corner but I won’t make
any excuses for myself”.
Despite the fact that Yih-Shin recorded a good finish, entering this week’s tournament, the golf commentators do not expect him to record a win this week.
According to the experts, he currently faces swing problems and he will not be able to contend against a strong field.
The former Masters champion Ian Woosnam, the two-time winner of the event Zhang Lian-Wei and 14 of the top-20 players in the Asian Tour Order of Merit will be featured in the tournament.
Woosnam, who currently focuses on playing on the European Seniors Tour, is relishing the opportunity of playing against some of the best young players on the Asian Tour.
Woosnam has recorded a total of 48 international victories in his career. He may not be regarded as a favourite for a win this week. Yet, he will allow the Macau Open to maintain its tradition of attracting the major champions to the field.
