Chance for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Amin-c94597 to prove his credentials - Opinion
In the previous decade, Pakistan has produced a number of talented batsmen who promised a lot at the highest stage of the game but majority of them failed to deliver the goods. The list includes the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yasir-Hameed-c2811
and many more.
Over the last three years however, the situation seems to have been ameliorating, with the emergence of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asad-Shafiq-c46208, who have shown positive signs in international cricket. These four players are expected to take
the Green Shirts forward in international cricket in the coming years.
In the previous five years, the name of Rawalpindi’s young left-handed batsman, Umar Amin, has been talked about a lot in Pakistan’s domestic circuit, as the stroke-maker is considered to be one of the most elegant players in the country, having the potential
to perform well against the world’s best.
The 23-year-old cricketer represented http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
The stylish batsman failed to make an impact against Sri Lanka, India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, scoring just 34 runs in three matches. However, the team management showed faith in his abilities and gave him a chance to prove his credentials in the tour of England.
Amin played four Tests in England, two apiece against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and the hosts, but failed to convert his starts into big knocks, scoring just 99 runs, with a highest of 33 in eight innings.
While speaking to Pakpassion earlier this month, the budding cricketer admitted that he was given enough chances to showcase his skills but he could not perform to the best of his abilities.
“I don’t want to make any excuses at all. I was given 8 innings to prove myself in England which was ample time,” the budding player expressed. “I didn’t perform as well as I should have in England and that was my fault, nobody else’s.”
After spending a couple of years in the wilderness, Amin has returned to the global stage once again, having performed exceptionally well in the President’s Trophy 2012-13. The left-hander finished the event as the leading run-getter, scoring 767 runs in
nine first-class matches at an average of 45.11 runs per innings, including 281 runs in his last match against Habib Bank Limited.
As a result, the cricketer from Rawalpindi has been drafted into the T20 squad for the tour of India, which commences today with the first match at Bangalore.
The middle-order batsman thinks that he has improved a lot as a player over the last couple of years and claims to be a much better cricketer now, having the capacity to do well in international cricket.
He added, “Looking back on that tour I wasn’t a very mature cricketer then. In the subsequent two years I have learnt a lot about cricket, myself and about my strengths and weaknesses. As difficult a tour as it was in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, I still believe I learnt a
lot from that tour.”
With a number of experienced players in the side, it looks unlikely that Amin will get an opportunity to prove his skills against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750; however, he is an extremely talented batsman, who should be persisted with in future.
