Chance for youngsters to win Big League roster – MLB Detroit Tigers News

In some ways, the next season will provide the youngsters in Detroit Tigers’ Minor League system with an opportunity to prove their mettle. Without a shadow of a doubt, the Tigers are the favourites to win the next year’s World Series title.
They ended 2012 as the runner-ups to the San Francisco Giants, thanks to a forgettable losing streak that started from Game 1 of the World Series. Of course, there is room for improvement in Tigers’ hitting and pitching lineup.
With the likes of Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Doug Fister and Doug Fister and Rick Porcello, Jim Leyland and company have some of the best pitchers in the American League. Verlander won the Triple Crown and AL Most Valuable Player Award in 2011 and has
the ability to beat any opposition in Major League Baseball.
However that does not mean the Tigers have ended their pursuit of free agent starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez, who displayed some top quality throwing skills for the Tigers in 2012 post season. Sanchez wants a long term and multimillion dollar contract but
that won’t stop the Tigers from trying to bring him back.
“Rondon will walk his share of batters. But with a 100-103-mph fastball, and with a good second-pitch slider, he should be the kind of closer who mows through ninth innings minus the anxiety commonly associated with predecessors Jose Valverde and Todd Jones”,
said Lynn Henning of detroitnews.com.
“Early in the season, when pressure and scrutiny will be heaviest, his control could be a challenge. But wait him out. He is a bat-busting, shutdown talent who should be fine in 2013,” he added.
News have also surfaced the Tigers could give Bruce Rondon, their best pitching prospect, a chance to secure  a permanent spot on the big league roster. General Manager Dave Dombrowski believes Rondon is a rare talent and he can live up to the expectations
at the challenging close position.
Prospect outfielder Nick Castellanos, a highly reputed youngster, can also make his MLB debut in 2013 if Avisail Garcia failed at that position. It will be interesting to see if this young talent can become the future of Tigers.
