Chance of longshot winning Preakness this weekend?

I have money to play with, and was thinking about putting money on the four horses with the worst odds this weekend? Could it happen? Five years ago, I was going to bet, and the horse with the worst odds won, I think it was the preakness. Thanks

The only horse that has a remote shot at winning that will be longer than 5-1 is Circular Quay (but he should be lower than his morning line of 8-1 by post time).  The others are outclassed in here, they are decent horses and may end up winning a Grade 3 or even 2 later on but they don't fit with the big boys.  King of The Roxy is by far the most talented of the horses above 10-1 but he is a sprinter, if the race was going 1/4 mile shorter he would be all over my tickets.  You could run all of the horses that are over 10-1 in the Barbaro Stakes earlier in the card that day and none of them aside from King Of The Roxy would have a shot to win that race.

So it may be worth a few bucks to try and beat Street Sense with Circular Quay, other than that save you money and have a party instead.

in 2002 War Emblem won the Derby and the Preakness (he was one of the choices in the Preakness) however Sarava beat him in the Belmont (at over 50-1)

The Preakness is run on a unique track with tight turns and a longer stretch.  Could do well for a stalker long shot, so look for a horse that starts slow and comes on hard in the stretch.  Long shot speed horses are not a good bet as they will have problems going into the tight turn and either drift wide or slow down.

Pimlico is a quirky track that doesn't deserve to be a triple crown venue.  Its not in the same league as Churchill Downs or Belmont.  There are many better tracks in the US.

The more I look at the past performances, the less likely I think it is that a long shot will win. I do really think that Hard Spun has a real chance of turning the tables on Street Sense. Of course, who knows, maybe Calvin Borail gets another dream trip and wins again. As an aside to the asker, Bernardini won the Preakness last year at 12 - 1 odds and I would say he is the longest priced winner in at least the last 20 years

There are only 9 horses in the field for the Preakness this weekend, and they're all in there for a reason:  They've showed promise!  $2 to win on the 4 longshots is a gamble, but has hit many times in "big" races.  Good luck!

If you want to play long shots (like I do), I would keep an eye on C.P. West.  The horse is known as a stalker, which is ideal for a route race, and will be there right at the end I feel.  I envision the horse hopefully coming in second if a speed dual was to develop between Street Sense and Hard Spun.  That being said, try an exacta on Curlin-C.P. West.  This can pay pretty nice if it were to come out :)

CP West may have the best shot of the non-Derby starters. Nick Zito does not enter runners in major races without feeling there is a chance it could pop a nice run.

Just for your info, I am playing two tri tickets w/ Street Sense with Circular Quay with the rest and Street Sense with the rest with Circular Quay, so I'm hoping for a bomber in the place or show and the Quay to close to cash one of the tickets.

Street Sense just may be the real deal, but a few bucks on a couple bombers could be the best way of making some nice money.  Unless playing exotics, Street Sense's win odds are going to get hammered down.

It could happen! But the odds are against it for a reason. Don't bet your life savings on it, but if you have some money to spare, then why not? If nothing else, it will be fun to watch.

I dont think there will be any real long shots.

streetsense should be good for second or third.

if you think streetsense will win and he goes off at low odds

you might consider a bet of street up top, with two long shots for second, and for third, take the two horses that came close to beating street in the kd.  :)

C.P. West is a good longshot! Also Flying First Class (trained by D. Wayne Lukas) is a good bet!
