I had a miscarriage three years ago and i am pregnant again. I'm just wondering if the chances of having a miscarriage increase if you have already had one. I also would like to add that i feel much healthier this time. I have not been nearly as sick.

  1. I've never been pregnant or had a miscarriage but I think I read somewhere that it occurs 20% of the time with first pregnancies. I think pregnancies after that have a better shot at continuing. I look at it this way: pregnancy is a HUGE deal. Sometimes, our bodies need a "practice" try to get ready for the real deal...kind of like a rehearsal. It just stinks that the practice run is so painful to some women. Try not to worry...this time around your body is better equipped to handle that blessing.

I worry about miscarriage and I'm not even pregnant, it is such a stressful time, that first trimester. God Bless you throughout this pregnancy!! Enjoy it and try not to worry!

  2. If I had one miscarriage, does that mean I'm more likely to have another?

No, you are not more likely to have a miscarriage if you have had one in the past. In fact, your risk of miscarriage is exactly the same as if you had never had a miscarriage.

Miscarriages are extremely common, occuring in approximately 1 in every 5 pregnancies. That means that most women will have at least one miscarriage in their reproductive lives. The miscarriages are caused by one time, non-repeating genetic problems. These genetic problems are not inherited; they are caused by genetic defects that happened during the creation of the egg or the sperm, or a genetic problem that occurred at the time of fertilization. Therefore, they are restricted only to that pregnancy and have no impact on future pregnancies.

Of course, since the normal miscarriage rate is so high, some women will have two miscarriage, but the odds are small, approximately 1 in 25 or 4%.

P.S, i miscarried my first, and now have a healthy 12mos old. the pregnancy was hard and i worried a lot, but i got there in the end, you will too. chill out and try to relax, although i know its hard.

  3. Congratulations!!!  I too had a miscarriage and am now pregnant again.  I know the pain and worry you had to go through and can safely say

Don't worry!!! You are at 0% more risk b/c you had a previous miscarriage!  It is okay!  Once you have 3 in a row your risk level actually increases 2-3%.  You only had one and that is normal, so more than likely NOTHING is going to go worng with this one.  It's a good sign that you're feeling better right now.  Me too!

Once you get that ultrasound and hear a heart beat the chances of miscarriage are less than 10%.

Good Luck with your Pregnancy.  You can do it!

  5. yes, sorry i know bc a friend ( michelle 33 yrs old ) had 2 many miscarriages i lost count! but now she's past the first stage and is having her baby girl in January ( it's her birthday 2 so she might but might have it on her b-day the 25 like the crazy friend Justina so ).... u might lose the embryo on  the first stage

  6. Your chances of a second miscarriage are two to three times higher than of having a first miscarriage.  Talk this over with your doctor and ask him what you can do to keep from having a miscarriage ... some things may help, others won't, but at least you'll know your chances.  By the way, I had over 20 miscarriages and when I got pregnant with my first son I worried the whole time.  I went on to give birth to him and to four more babies ... then had one last miscarriage (multiple babies ... more than I could have carried so I miscarried them in the late second month).  The longer you are pregnant, though, the lower the chances that you'll have a miscarriage.  Good luck and God bless you.
