i dont really get this. wht is an example of something tht has happened to u by chance?

It means something that happens that you didn't expect, like getting a good grade on an exam, or inheriting a fortune, or having someone you have a crush on, call you up for a date.

chance could be finding a dollar bill on the floor, or finding a friend from middle-school while getting coffee.

chance is the unknown and unpredictable element in happenings that seems to have no assignable cause.
