Chance to perform in IPL is a cricketer’s dream: Narine – Cricket News Update
Talented young http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869, has spoken out in praise of the Indian Premier League, saying the chance to perform in such a tournament is an ideal opportunity.
“Getting to perform in a tournament like this is probably a cricketer’s dream… I am happy to have proved myself at this level.”
Narine made his debut for the national side in December 2011 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 last month. He claimed 11 wickets during the 5match series, including
a 4 for 27 during the second ODI, establishing himself as one of the prime spin prospects from the Caribbean. However, when it came to the extended-overs leg of the tour, the 23-year-old opted for a stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders (by whom he had been
purchased for $700,000) over a Test debut.
His performances in the IPL have been similarly successful. The off-spinner has claimed 11 wickets in six matches so far, and has registered an economy rate of 5.45.
Referring to his 5 for 19 against the Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 in Kolkata on April 15, Narine claimed that the performance was the highlight of his time in the IPL so far, and had helped him gain confidence.
“Against Kings XI Punjab, at the Eden… That’s where I got five wickets (5/19), and made my mark. It helped me believe in myself and made me feel comfortable.”
Narine’s side currently stands at number 2 on the points table, having won 5 out the 9 matches they have played. Their most recent match was played against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, an encounter from which they emerged
triumphant, with a 47-run win.
The Gautam Gambhir-led side will be facing off against the Sourav Ganguly-led Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 on May 5, and the match promises to be an exciting one. Ganguly led the Kolkata franchise in the earlier seasons (2008 and 2010) before he was ignored during the
2011 edition, and shifted to Pune. While Gambhir has acknowledged that the Warriors’ skipper has a special place in the hearts of the Kolkata crowd, he claimed that he was confident the audience at Eden Gardens would support their home team.
