Chances for return of Josh McDaniels to New England Patriots bright – NFL News
It is confirmed now that New England Patriots' offensive coordinator, Bill O'Brien will be leaving for Penn State to take on the responsibility of the new Head Coach and that has possibly paved the way for the return of St. Louis
Rams' offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels to the Patriots' team.
It was with the Patriots that McDaniels began his career in NFL. He has earlier expressed his desire to return to his former team and now that seems imminent since the offensive coordinator post has become vacant in New England.
News from the Rams side is not good though for McDaniels. The Rams are currently ranked the 31st in the NFL with regards to yards per game and in scoring points the situation is even worse with the team ending at the bottom of
the league. However, McDaniels continues to enjoy a lot of popularity despite the shortcomings and poor performance of his team.
And it is for this low performance of his team that McDaniels could be released from his job by the Rams, thus adding to McDaniels’ need to look for a new job. That would also add to the intensity with which McDaniels longs to
join the Patriots. According to news reported by the NFL Network, McDaniels will be interviewed by the Patriots for the post of the offensive coordinator and that will happen this weekend. It is quite well known that Patriots coach Bill Belichick and McDaniels
enjoy a very close relationship and that could help him attain the job.
Nevertheless McDaniels has other options open to him as well. He could possibly end up with the Kansas City Chiefs where there are various opportunities open for McDaniels. He may be offered the head coaching job with the Chiefs,
so there is not much to worry about for him. Although one thing is certain that McDaniels would prefer to move to New England in case he gets a job offer from both the sides.
McDaniels is currently under a contract with the Rams and the Patriots have requested a permission to speak to him. If the Patriots decide to hire him then there would be something else that would need to be taken care of. However,
it is most likely that the Rams would not hold him to his contract, in case he decides to leave. The NFL Network also reported that the Rams have allowed the Patriots permission to speak to him.
McDaniels left the Patriots in 2009 to join the Denver Broncos as the head coach before leaving to join the Rams. Earlier under McDaniels the Patriots came up with one of the best offensive performances in NFL history. That would
surely have the Patriots wanting to acquire him.
