Question:

Chances of Having Celiac?

Next week I'm having a bowel biopsy to test for celiac. My symptoms include not having my period for a year, iron-definiante anemia, weight loss, and pain in my stomach. My father and aunt have celiac....

Are my chances of having celiac high? Should I start buying gluten free foods and relish my potentially last week of my life on gluten?

  1. Sounds like a strong possibility to me. Try this easy 5-question multiple choice quiz, which will get more data and give you a stronger answer:

  2. It sounds like you probably have celiac disease with your father having CD and the symptoms you have.  Have you already had the blood tests or are they doing those at the same time as the biopsy?

Eat what you normally eat until the biopsy making sure you do eat some gluten containing foods everyday so the results don't show a false negative.

Good luck and if the tests show up positive for CD, get on a strict gluten free diet and look forward to your body repairing itself and your symptoms going away.

  3. I had a biopsy when I was nine (my symptoms were stomach aches and i wasnt growing at all) and teh week before, I ate everything with wheat that I could get my hands on. my parents even let my have doughnuts and poptarts for dinner! buuuuttttttt, if your symptoms are that bad, you might not want to do that. ask your doctor if thats ok first.
