Chances of Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League – Part 1
If there is one team that has the talent and the players to retain the European title at the moment, it is definitely the Italian side Inter Milan. It is true that they were never the favourites to win the UEFA Champions League last year but the “special one”, Jose Mourinho proved everyone wrong and showed the world that anything is possible with whatever team he wants.
Who can forget Mourinho’s run with the Portuguese side Porto. They were also the least favourites to win the UEFA Champions League that year, but they still won the competition and it was again the special Portuguese coach who simply proved himself in front of all the coaches in the world, thus giving all the critics a shut up call.
With a Portuguese side given to Jose Mourinho, nobody thought that the “special one” was going to do wonders with it. He barely bought any players but the talented Portuguese club had immense talent in it already, and Mourinho’s tactics helped them win the UEFA Champions League at a time when English and Spanish teams were at the top of their game.
After being a part of the Portuguese club, the English side Chelsea decided to buy the coach and Jose Mourinho became an iconic figure in the world. He was considered to be one of the best coaches in the world and with Chelsea; he accomplished what the English side never accomplish before. He helped “the blues” win the English Premier League for two years in a row and it was for the first time that Chelsea managed to win their first ever double and it was also under the Portuguese coach, Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho’s team was then taken over by the new Chelsea coach Avram Grant. It was Grant who helped the team reach the final of the UEFA Champions League, but everyone knows that Mourinho had already polished the team, and it was Grant who took the team to that stage with very little to do.
After Chelsea, Mourinho joined the Italian side Inter Milan and helped them become one of the most successive sides in Europe. It is true that Inter Milan was already a great side and had won the Italian league a lot of times but by buying a few players like Wesley Sneijder, Diego Milito and Samuel Eto’o, Mourinho made them even stronger and helped the team reach new heights.
Inter Milan did not win anything for more than forty five years and it was Mourinho who tried his best to help the team win European glory. After working very hard with the Italian club, Jose Mourinho made them the best defensive side in the world, and with extraordinary talent at the back, they started to concede the least amount of goals.
Mourinho’s tactics were not really liked by many people during his time in all the clubs. He used to strike the ball towards the goal and told his team to defend the one or two goal advantage for the rest of the game. The best example comes from the semi final stage of the UEFA Champions League when Inter Milan faced the Spanish side Barcelona.
Barcelona were losing 3-1 on aggregate and they needed two goals to advance to the final stage of the UEFA Champions League. However, Jose Mourinho stood steady in between the Spanish giants and took his team to the Nou Camp for a draw.
Inter Milan saw themselves a man down during the first half after Sergio Busquets dived in and pretended that he got hurt. However, Mourinho’s side stood still and guarded their goal well enough.
