Chances of Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League – Part 5
Wesley Sneijder is definitely 'one' of the best signings by Jose Mourinho during his career; however 'the most supreme' signing was that of the Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o, who is currently showing everyone that he is not only a player who can play
for the Spanish side but also someone who can adapt the Italian style of play.
Wesley Sneijder proved to be a dynamic midfielder. The way he can move forward to help the strikers score goals and add a few to his names as well, is simply fabulous. It is good to see the former Real Madrid player back in form. It was Sneijder who helped
the team win games in the UEFA Champions League and the Dutch star was the one who played the final in his old home ground, Santiago Bernabeu and helped the Italian Champions defeat the German Champions, Bayern Munich.
Wesley Sneijder was not only a star during his time in Inter Milan last year. In fact, Sneijder proved to be an uncontrollable force throughout the FIFA World Cup 2010. While playing for his country, Netherlands, Wesley Sneijder took his favourite attacking
midfield position and totally owned the show throughout the tournament.
The Dutch started their FIFA World Cup campaign from a group that had the easiest of teams for them. Throughout qualifications, the Dutch team had an all-winning run and after being a part of the FIFA World Cups 'last 32 teams', they played their best side
which included many star players.
The Dutch team were the favourites before the competition started. Their team included the Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben along with the Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder and the Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie. With such a strong line up, the Dutch
team were expected to do wonders and even though they had many hurdles in their way during the tournament, they still managed to cross each and every one of them except the last one.
By defeating all the three teams that were paired up against them in the group stages; Denmark, Japan and Cameroon, the Dutch team went on to face the “underdogs,” Slovakia in the pre quarter finals. The Slovakian side defeated the former Champions Italy
and knocked them out and they were ready to pull off another miracle but the Dutch side proved to be better than night and they won the game to qualify for the quarter finals.
In the quarter finals, they had to face the toughest of challenges. They were paired up with Dunga’s South American side Brazil, who were also considered favourites in the competition. Many said that it is going to be a miracle if the Dutch team defeated
the Brazilians but a red card won by the Brazilian midfielder proved to be the key point in the game totally changing and the Dutch side winning the game.
The lead was taken by the Brazilians as Robinho made a fine run inside the eighteen yard box to finish the ball inside the net but later, two goals from the Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder, were enough to put them in front as the Dutch qualified for
an easy semi final against Uruguay.
After defeating Diego Forlan’s Uruguay, the Dutch team reached the final stage of the FIFA World Cup 2010. Many were in favour of the Oranges because Sneijder looked to be in great form along with his Dutch winger Arjen Robben but both of them just could
not do much to win it for their team. They tried their best but even with good chances, they just could not find the net during the game.
