Chances of Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League - Part 2

If Jose Mourinho is one factor for Real Madrid to win the European title, the new signings could be the other. This year with Mourinho in charge of the Spanish club; one of the richest club in the world, he made sure that he buys
“most” of the talented players out there in the market.
During the FIFA World Cup 2010, FIFA provided the clubs with a platform so that they could see which player could do wonders with the ball. The German side shined from nowhere, even though the German team is always considered to
be the favourite to win the competition or at least reach the semi final, they still barely had a chance with a totally new team, especially with their captain Michael Ballack out of the team.
The German team surprised everyone during the tournament. Their World Cup campaign started off against Australia during the group stages and in their first match they managed to win the game as they defeated the Australians 4-0.
This was the first high scoring game of the tournament as the Germans totally thrashed the Australians. Their next match was against Serbia and despite the red card that the German Pele, Miroslav Klose took, the German side still managed to draw the game for
a point. The last match was a “must win” for the Germans and it was the German star Mesut Ozil who scored the only goal of the match to help the German side take the three points. It was the German team that managed to qualify for the pre quarter final stages
and the match was set as the European team, England was to face the Germans.
The headlines read “one of the greatest matches in history,” as two of the greatest European football playing nations were to collide in the pre quarter final match. The match was supposed to be a tough one for both the sides but
everyone saw how the young German team totally destroyed the dreams of the English side and gave them a 4-1 thrashing. Later during the tournament, the Germans defeated the “all winning” Argentinean side 4-0 and lost the semi final match to the “dominating”
Spanish side. However, the Germans were the team who brought in the new talent and Jose Mourinho saw the emerging stars and decided to buy Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira.
With Jose Mourinho in charge of Real Madrid, he decided to play his favourite 4-3-3, but when he saw that the team was failing to perform, Mourinho decided to shift the game to 4-4-2 with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain playing
up front along with Angel Di Maria and Ozil on the flanks. The newly signed Khedira along with Xabi Alonso featured as midfielders.
Another great signing that the Spanish side made was the Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho. In terms of impact, this was the best signing of the summer transfer window for Real Madrid. They always lacked good defenders throughout
the previous season and this time they had a strong defensive lineup as Carvalho and Pepe become a part of the central defensive position and Sergio Ramos and Marcelo played as defenders on the flanks. To top it all, Iker Casillas, the captain fantastic, takes
charge between the two poles and acts as the “goal stopper” for the Spanish side.
Jose Mourinho is simply a legend in terms of “football managing” and he has accomplished a lot throughout his career. With him in charge of Real Madrid, and with such a strong side with him, Mourinho can definitely do wonders with
the team. Jose Mourinho and his side cannot be counted out of the competition. Despite the fact that Real Madrid has not been a part of the quarter finals of the European competition, it is simply “stupid” if you consider them out of the tournament this time
round. They have already won the two group stage matches and they are definitely a part of the toughest group in the Champions League with AC Milan, Ajax and Auxerre paired up with them.
Real Madrid definitely stand a chance in this tournament as teams like Bayern Munich and Barcelona are not going to perform this time round. This is not because they don’t have quality players but because these two teams were able
to provide most of their first team players to the national teams in the FIFA World Cup 2010.
