Question:

Chances of another dry socket?

I got my wisdom teeth removed last week and I developed a dry socket in one of the extraction sites (lower molar). I got it packed by my dentist the day it started hurting - very badly I might add - which was Sunday and then got it packed four more times throughout the week. The last time I got it packed was Thursday and my dentist told me to remove it Saturday (today) and it's hurting a little (not as much as before, more of a dull ache) and I want to know the chances of further complications. Is a week enough time for the packing method to help everything heal right?

Also, is there anything I can do to make sure it heals properly ?

(My dentist gave me the syringe to use after eating, so I know about that already).

  1. if your pain has reduced, it shows sign of healing. Keep the socket clean & gargle with clohex mouth wash. Take your antibiotics & pain killers.

  2. I would call the Dentist and ask your questions.  I had two dry sockets at once with wisdom teeth years ago.  I am so sorry for you.  Extremely painful.
