  1. Actually seatbelts mainly prevent severe head injuries more than death. It's really just a ploy so insurance companies don't have to pay as often. They have great lobbyists who got it pushed through as law.

  2. Wearing a properly adjusted lap and shoulder seat belt reduces the risk of serious or fatal injury by 50%. In a frontal crash, the seat belt limits the forward movement of the body. This avoids contact with the hard interior of the car and limits the forces placed to the body.

  3. Wearing a seat belt reduces your chance of death by 50 percent and serious injury by 70 percent.

  4. This is entirely situational.  There actually are some types of accidents where not wearing a seatbelt and being thrown clear of the vehicle may be beneficial, the problem is, you can't control what type of accident you are going to have, and having a seatbelt on is going to save you a lot more often than not.  Remember also that seatbelts along with other safety features built into todays vehicles are really only designed for slow speed crashes, once you get over a certain speed, very little besides luck is going to prevent you from being injured or killed.

A couple of other things to consider; having a seatbelt on means you are better able to control your vehicle, and therefore, will have a better chance of avoiding the incident altogether.  Without a seatbelt on, the laws of physics will very quickly remove you from your seat even without hitting anything, causing a complete loss of control and ultimately, a crash.  Additionally, you have to worry about others in the vehicle, especially if they are wearing their seatbelts.  In a collision you can injure or kill other occupants by striking them directly as you are not restrained, or, if riding in the back seat, crush them between their seat back and their seatbelt by striking their seat.

Overall, the chances of you or someone else in the vehicle being injured or killed through not using seatbelts is far greater than if everyone had them on.

    Stay safe.

  5. well you can be killed just walking across the road cant you...

They make these seat belts for a  reason-so people dont get thrown out of a car during an accident, they make them to keep you safe and secure with in the car...

What are your chances of getting into the car wearing no seatbelt and having an accident and getting yourself killed-around about 85%  pretty good reason to wear a seatbelt i would say....
