Chances of getting into Rochester Institute of Technology?

Mostly, I've only started caring about my education as of late. So here's a bit about me:

In high school, I had a GPA of 3.2.

My SAT scores were 550 in reading and 560 in math.

I did early admission (doing senior year at college, yet any credits one gets will go to college and high school, if needed there).

My first semester of college had a 3.23 GPA. My second had a 2.59. Summer had 4.0. All together, it is 2.97. (Spring, things were happening in my life and I just didn't care about anything.)

I can get a 4.0 if I try. 93% and above is a 4.0; but the thing is, if I get a 4.0 on everything this year, it will still only be a 3.49. I need more classes this semester but I'm maxed out. I can only take 17 credits and I'm already there.

What should I do? Do I have much of a chance? I need a perfect grade in every chance even for them to glance at me. I'm hoping early admit will help somehow.

  1. Your HS gpa won't count as you've taken too many college classes for them to consider your high school record and they may ignore your GED scores. If you get a 4.0 and you cumulative GPA is a 3.5 then I think you'll get in.

  2. I think if you can even just get your GPA above a 3.25 you'll have a  shot.  1 low semester shouldn't hurt you too bad.  If you get an interview, be great in it.  Explain that you had a tough semester with things going on but you were able to bounce back and are better for it now.

RIT isn't necessarily known for being an impossible to school to get in to.  Its known to be a tough school to get OUT of, meaning, graduate from.  The curriculum is tough and its 5 years for a bachelors in Engineering with internships.  After 2nd year, Summer Vacation goes away and you do Co-op rotations.

One other thing that you have going for you, judging from your picture, is that your a female.  This is going to help at RIT because they have a HEAVY male population and Colleges are always looking to Diversify.  This will help you even more if you are going in to the college of engineering.  If you have Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Background, or any other female group leadership experience, you should definitely include it in your portfolio.
