  1. As the son of a twin, and father of twins, your genealogy would be wrong in my circumstance. Twins run on my fathers side of the family,(He also has twin cousins) however, the instance of twin births has risen. They say mainly because of birth control meds, it takes awhile for the body to re-regulate the ovulation process. Good luck.

  2. I think fraternal (non-identical) twins runs on the mother's side because you may be prone to release two or more eggs which may result in multiples...as for identical I think it's just random.

  3. i think its a wives tale that it skips.. but in my case thats true.. my grandma had 2 sets of twins, and my first time pregnant i was pregnant with twins. Her sisters daughter has twins also.. and someone else up the line.. Anytime there is twins in your family that is on your mothers side and it follows a female line your at a chance.. if the cousins mom is related by blood and not marriage then its possible there as well..

  4. Having twins on the mothers side does improve the odds but wont guarantee it.  I've also heard that women over the age of 35 are more likely to conceive twins due to age.  Also women who are slightly overweight are also more likely to get twins.

I've also read on the net that certain fertility meds may result in twin pregnancies, but not every time.  Please also remember there are also a lot of complications that can come with a twin pregnancy, so just be prepared if you are blessed!

Good Luck and babydust, hoping you get your wish

  5. i've never heard that, and it probably does have alot to do with the mothers genes, but if you want twins, you should take fertility meds, that helps with having more than one.

  6. That's not always true.  The women is responsible for non identical twins.  It's not fully understood but women prone to having twins or who have had twins produce more igf-1 and fsh.  They are still studying igf-1 but know that fsh causes follies to grow.  The higher you're level then more chance you have of making two or more eggs reach maturity.  IVF treatments often require fsh shots.  This higher level of fsh is different from women who suffer high fsh from diminished ovarian reserve but they feel may contribute to older women having an increase chance of having twins.  I think its the igf-1 levels that makes the real difference.  Also cows exposed to hormones (including igf-1) caused usa twin birth rates to increase.  It's now not allowed to be used.

Identical twins are still a big mystery.  Some believe its the sperm that causes the split but most are going towards believing its the egg and that calcium levels play some role.  Assisted hatching (sometimes used in ivf) has been know to cause identical twins.  Interestingly, the time of when the cells seperate into twins determines what type of identical twin they will be.  For example, if they split very late, they will be Siamese twins.
