Chand not thinking of an imminent national call-up – Cricket News Update
Unmukt Chand, captain of the Under-19 World Cup winning India team, has played down Indian call-up suggestions, saying he was not thinking too far ahead and is fully focused on performing well during next month’s tour of New Zealand with India A team.
“I just take one tournament at a time, I’m really happy that we did well at the World Cup as a unit,” said the 19-year-old top-order batsman during a function organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to felicitate the triumphant U-19 squad.
“The next step is India A and I’ll be looking forward to doing well over there. It’s too early to say anything about playing for India. I do want to play for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 but at the moment I want to focus on wherever I go and play," he added further.
The Delhi-born top-order batsman smashed a match-winning 111 not out in the summit clash against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737, to lead the country to Under-19 Cricket World Cup glory.
Prior to Sunday’s unbeaten century, Chand had scored only one half-century, against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045, in the group stage. Replying to a query about his individual performance in the esteemed tournament, the Indian opener said that he wanted to score runs in the initial stages of the tournament as well, but was fortunate to score in the grand finale, when the team wanted it form him the most.
