Chandrayaan ready for second career win
After some excellent podium finishes during the last few months, the John E. Long trained chestnut gelding, Chandrayaan, is now quite ready to break the jinx and accomplish a victory for the first time since September 2009 when he broke his maiden at Wolverhampton.
The Poker At bet365 Handicap (Div II), which is due to take place today at Chepstow racecourse, will be an ideal opportunity for the five-year-old veteran horse to register his second career win. The class 6 race will go over 7 furlongs and 16 yards with
the surface being good to soft. He has not experienced such race conditions since long, but the confident sprinter is likely to read the ground and do well by capitalizing on the form produced by his recent performances.
After finishing 3rd in the 32RedBingo.com Handicap at Kempton on February 23, the son of Bertolini out of Muffled grabbed two consecutive runner-up ranks at Lingfield in the month of March.
While struggling for success, he finished 4th in the Chartplan Handicap (Div II) on April 11. The important thing was that he outplayed the best-priced candidate Mac Tiernan.
The Whatton Manor Stud bred gelding proceeded to gain a couple of thirds in a row. Interestingly, he ran all these races under Simon Pearce who is geared up to drive the gelding again today. Hopefully, the skilled rider will take the runner to the finish
line first of all.
Bashama is the only strong rival who can impede Chandrayaan in the coming contest. The Nikki Evans trained chestnut filly has been out of action since finishing as the runner-up in Happy 50th Birthday Andy Smith Handicap, held at Chepstow on August 9.
During the last three weeks, the young filly prepared hard for today’s marathon. Her prior experience with the ground is going to help her a lot. After 9 starts, she seems to be desperate to break her maiden.
In this pursuit, she will show enough resistance against Chandrayaan. Thus, a fierce spar will be witnessed between these two runners. This will amuse the spectators greatly. Let us be a part of this party.
