Chanelle Scheepers beats Martina Hingis at United States Team Tennis League
As time is passing, Chanelle Scheepers is someone who is making her name quite prominent in the world as a professional tennis player. This upcoming star has been struggling for some time now and it seems like now is the time that her struggle will pay off for her.
Scheepers is the number one female tennis player in South Africa and is still trying her best to attain greater heights in world rankings. The highest she has gotten so far in world tennis rankings is at the eighty-fourth spot. However, seeing her performance improving over time, it is likely that Scheepers has a bright future in front of her.
Having won eleven International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournaments and numerous local tennis tournaments, Scheepers has made her greatest achievement till now at the French Open 2010. This was the first time that Scheepers had qualified for a Grand Slam tournament and surprised the world with her impressive performance. She managed to overthrow Gisela Dulko, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 and Akgul Amanmuradova, 6-3, 6-3 in the first and second rounds respectively. She was eliminated in the third round after she lost to Elena Dementieva, 6-1 6-3. However, qualifying for the third round in her first Grand Slam participation remains a big achievement for this upcoming tennis star.
This young South African tennis player is still working endlessly to maintain her career as a professional tennis player. Not much time has passed since the French Open took place and Scheepers is already progressing towards newer heights. She has recently defeated former world number one Martina Hingis while playing for the Springfield Lasers in the United States Team Tennis League. Hingis, who has been playing for the New York Buzz, has won six matches prior to her loss against Scheepers. This shows that Hingis is still in good form. However, Scheepers’ young and aggressive blood managed to upset the tennis legend with ease.
Martina Hingis has been one of the best female tennis players in the history of the game. She has spent a total of 209 weeks as the world number one and she has won five singles and nine doubles Grand Slam titles during her career. Even though Hingis has not been playing full time for a while now, it has still been an honour for a player like Scheepers to have upset this tennis princess.
According to Chanelle Scheepers, she has been blessed to have been given a chance to play against an amazing and special player like Hingis and that beating this former world champion is a huge accomplishment for her. This victory has given Scheepers the motivation to excel further in her professional tennis career and says that she feels that her game is getting better with every match she plays.
On the other hand, Martina Hingis needs to stay at the top of her game if she wants to continue with her career as a professional tennis player. Playing part time will not get her back to the top. This Grand Slam champion is still going over the possibility of making a comeback to the mainstream World Tennis Association, but in order to do so she will have to stop thinking and take some action quickly, because new-blood poses a lethal threat to the existing tennis champions.
Chanelle Scheepers has made some very noticeable moves in her career so far, but still needs to work more extensively in order to progress further. This tennis player has the potential to make it big in the world of tennis. If she directs her talent and energy in the right direction, there is no stopping this young South African tennis ace.
