Chang and Santa Barbara set to meet in the quarterfinals – Volleyball news
The defending champions of the 2012 AVC Women’s Club Volleyball World Championship, Chang of Thailand, is scheduled to meet Santa Barbara of Malaysia in the quarterfinal match on Friday, April 27.
The MCC Hall in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand will set up the field for the match.
Chang qualified for the final round of the championship from Pool A, while the Santa Barbara came from Pool B.
The hosts did not have a good start in the tournament as they dropped their opening match to Toray Arrows of Japan. In the first match, which spanned over five sets, home squad fought bravely but could not achieve success. The defeat came as a surprise for
the local fans but the team cheered them up with victory in the next match.
Chang went against Vietnam’s VTV Binh Dien Long An in the second match and dominated the opponent. Equipped with the support of home fans, Chang demonstrated a stealer performance and held off VTV Binh Dien Long An for 3-0 victory.
The local ladies got their full form back in the third match and posted an amazing straight set win over Iranian team Giti Pasand Isfahan. Back to back victories improved the winning record of home team and enabled them to reserve a berth in the quarterfinals.
The head coach of Chang Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai shared his views after winning its last match on Tuesday. He stated, “I admired every player in my team for their good performance in the match against Gitipasand. The Iranian team also performed well
up to their standard. I fielded all players in my team to this match because I wanted them to gain valuable experience, especially the young players.”
Thailand’s coach is optimistic that his team will manage to cope with the power of Santa Barbara in the next crucial match.
The Malaysia team, on the other hand, appeared in three matches and clinched success in just one match. They opened the tournament with victory over Sri Lankan team but then suffered the loss in next two matches.
Apparently, Chang has better prospects to win the match. Nonetheless, let’s wait and see until the two teams join the volleyball scrimmage on Friday.
