Chang finishes Pool-Play with win over Asia World – Volleyball news
Thailand’s women rounded off the Pool-Play of 2012 AVC Women’s Club Volleyball Championship with a wonderful victory over Asia World of Myanmar on Wednesday, April 25.
They claimed winning status by sending 25-7, 25-16, and 25-14 on board in three respective sets. Chang marked third consecutive win in the first round of the championship and moved to 3-1 record. The team had already qualified for the final round on Tuesday.
Onuma Sittirak and Wilavan Apinyapong developed a great chemistry between them and put up a combined effort for Chang. The duo remained remarkably consistent throughout the match and led the hosts to success in the last fixture of opening round.
The home side started out on a strong footing and delivered powerful serves. Wilavan and Pornpun served with great accuracy and also hit aces in the early few minutes. The defensive expert of Asia World faced a lot of trouble to tackle the speed bombs from
the opposite side of the net.
Chang not only offered strong offense but did a great job at defence. Sittirak stood like a concrete wall and killed most of the opponents’ attack attempts. The opening set of the match totally imitated a one-sided affair, where Chang enjoyed better status
and Asia World trailed behind.
The visiting Myanmar squad could hardly bag seven points in the first set and put up with the loss. Chang improved to 1-0 by securing the opening stanza, 25-7.
The head coach of Asia World had a cold session with his players during the break and gave them a whole lot of instructions to deal with the rival. Chang had the competitive edge of playing at home and first-set win further enhanced local team’s performance
in the second set.
Asia World came up with better attacks in the second set but could not surpass Chang. The guest team lagged behind and kept looking for ways to get out of the blues. However, the hosts did not allow the visitors to come up and seized second set with final
score of 25-16.
In the third set, Asia World players seemed visibly exhausted and disgruntled about the match situation, whereas Chang enjoyed a great rhythm and tone. The local fans made huge noise and chanted encouraging slogans for their team. Chang responded to the
screams of rowdy fans by delivering back-to-back attacks. The killing spikes and deadly aces of Thai players continued at same frequency and finally the local ladies clawed their way to match victory after claiming third set (25-14).
In the next run, the defending champions Chang is scheduled to take on Santa Barbara of Malaysia on Friday. The two teams will compete in the quarter-final match. Chang has better record than Malaysian team and has bright prospects to continue with success
in the next fixture.
