Change Growp Owner?

I am the moderator of a group. Another moderator (the owner) is no more. Is there a way to change ownership without having access to the current owner? In fact, I want to remove the current owner as a moderator. Any suggestions?

Additional: only an owner can appoint another owner, and if that owner is inactive or just simply MIA, there's nothing you can do- sorry. only possible suggestion is to create a new group and invite the current members over to it.

you'd also have to have owner status to do this- if you're a moderator even with full priviledges, you can not remove the owner or reduce the owners status, appoint yourself owner

You will somehow need to obtain 'owner' status before that person can be deleted. The owner of a group cannot be removed.

I recently did this on one of my groups. As group owner, I made another user the owner. This was the only way that I was able to remove myself.
