Change for the sake of change will not help: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 – Cricket News Update
Following the Pakistan team’s dismal performance in the limited-overs series against England, under-fire captain, Misbah-ul-Haq, has stated that caution needs to be exercised in making post-failure changes to the team.
After their stunning 3-0 whitewash of the visitors in the Test series, the host team faced a 4-0 defeat in the ODIs, and lost the T20Is, 1-2. The failures had many calling for Misbah’s resignation, and a drastic re-ordering of the entire team. The 37-year-old
skipper, however, claimed that rash decisions could end up damaging the team.
“I think we need to take this decision only after assessing our resources and if you have those resources then do that,” said Misbah. “But if you don’t have quality cricketers, the changes will harm the team. If you change for the sake of change, it will
not help.”
The team’s last T20 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 was particularly disappointing. The Men In Green looked all set to win, but owing to the Poms’ intense bowling attack, the sub-continental batsmen were restricted, and cut off in the death overs, with the skipper getting
bowled out on the last ball of the game, 5 runs short of the target.
While Misbah is convinced that drastic changes will prove detrimental to future team performances, experts are divided in their opinions.
Legendary batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Syed-Zaheer-Abbas-Kirmani-c92392, agreed with Misbah, saying that a single individual could not be blamed solely for the defeats, because the whole team had performed badly.
His support for Misbah is in stark contrast to the opinions of former coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Akhtar-c90080, who claimed that the right-hander needed to be removed, owing to his passive attitude of captaincy, which was ineffective in limited-overs
matches.
However, former Pakistani batsman and commentator, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ramiz-Hasan-Raja-c83872, adopted a more balanced approach, and was of the view that while changes were required, they needed to be introduced gradually, instead of an abrupt restructuring.
“The team now requires whole-sale changes in the limited-overs formats. A complete but not abrupt overhaul is required. I think we need aggressive batsmen as all current http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 batsmen play at a similar pace,” he suggested.
