Question:

Change guitar playing style?

I've only been playing guitar for a month on a right handed guitar which sucks since I play left handed. I was thinking about getting a left handed guitar but I can't find any at a decent price!

Should I just switch over and try to learn playing right handed? It would be really hard but the world is made for right handed people and it definitely shows when it comes to guitar players...

  1. If you want to better your skills more quickly, I would suggest splurging on a left-handed guitar.  They may be more expensive, but it's not as though you need to replace a guitar very often, and the learning curve won't be nearly so steep if you're playing with your dominant hand.

That being said, learning to play right-handed - and well! - will probably gain you far more respect for overcoming a minor road block.

  2. I'm a lefty and I play a right-handed guitar. The only reason I play that type of guitar is because I was never shown a left-handed guitar and I felt fine playing it. If you're not comfortable playing a right-handed guitar then by all means, buy a left-handed guitar. You need to be comfortable and if this is what you have to do, do it.

Left-handed guitars are harder to find but if you ask around, I'm sure one music store in your area has a few in stock.

And I agree, the world is made for right-handed people but we lefties just have to adapt (except in guitar). :-)

  3. There are more knowledgeable guitarists in this guitar forum, I'd ask your question there for more advice.

  4. In My opinion the left hand does the most on the guitar and most other string instruments.  I have had many left handed students and several who thought they should have left handed instruments, but after a while they were happy on the standard instrument.

Most left handed instruments are much more expensive, and restringing an instrument usually is not a good idea.
