how much more fuel mileage could i expect with my bed of my pickup covered or with no tail gate

  1. first off think about the weight of what you plan on using.

    it's kind of catch 22 the weight could really decrease gas mileage pending on how the land is where you are.  A gate net they looks good some times, but really do nothing more than that ( tail gates have more protection if your reared). Auto makers take the aerodynamics which splits air force around the truck and over the top. very little air flows down into the bed due two the side air forces.

    The best thing I've found for the best fuel mileage is keep it in great condition keep it tuned,tires inflated to correct psi, keep the weight to the bear minimum.


  2. It will not change. Myth busters did a show about the very thing that you are talking about and they tried everything to get better milage and nothing helped, in fact the gas milage went down if you drive with no tail gate or the tail gate down.
