Change in technique improved my batting form: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RN-ten-Doeschate-c2338 – Cricket News Update
After playing an instrumental role in Essex’s recent 25-run Clydesdale Bank 40 win over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Worcestershire-c866 at the County Ground at New Road in Worcester on July 29, all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate revealed to BBC Essex that a few changes to his technique had
allowed him to bat more freely.
“I’m picking the bat up and it’s allowing me to free my hands a bit more,” he explained in regards to his technique.
The 32-year-old’s performances for Essex in the ongoing CB40 have been mediocre so far, with the all-rounder having registered an individual score of 9 in the club’s previous match, against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817 at Chelmsford.
However, he played a vital role in enabling his side to rack up a total of 269 against Worcestershire – a target which their opponents were ultimately unable to chase.
Essex lost the toss and were put to bat first, but made full use of the opportunity. Skipper Mark Pettini went on to win the Player of the Match award for his a-run-a-ball century (111), which, combined with Tom Westley’s 62, enabled them to establish an
opening stand of 113.
Pettini remained constant at the crease while other batsmen came and went. Following his dismissal in the 38th over, ten Doeschate stepped in with a late burst, scoring an unbeaten quick-fire 50 off 24 deliveries (including 3 fours and 4 sixes)
to get his team up to a total of 269.
“The boys played well, I think it was a very good deck. There were runs to be had there,” ten Doeschate said.
The team’s batting performance was followed up by a bowling attack spearheaded by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 eventually managed to cut Worcestershire off at 244 – 25 runs short of the target.
Despite their win, however, Essex are still below Worcestershire on the Clydesdale Bank 40 Group A points table – a situation which mirrors their position on the County Championship Division Two table, where they are currently 3rd from the bottom.
“We're quite a way off where we need to be to get promoted but I think it's time to play brave cricket,” the right-hander observed.
