Change of ownership: Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur says carries no fear – NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ second-year coach Pat Shurmur has discarded the possibility of him nurturing a sense of fear about his and other coaches’ prospects, which seem to be in the air after change of the ownership hands of the team.
The Browns are sold to the new owner Jimmy Haslam III – the truck-stop magnate – on a $1 billion plus deal, and arrival of the new boss can put the jobs of present staff and players in jeopardy.
Pat insists he is not afraid of the change and the only thing he focuses at the moment is to get the team ready for the regular season.
Pat, who joined the team last year, is supervising training camp. He said of the change:
"I have no fear. I have no fear about any of that because I trust my coaches, I trust the players. I've watched the work that they're doing and I have no fear. I think we're moving full steam ahead. My concern is getting this team ready to play."
His view is in conflict with the remarks of linebacker Scott Fujita, who sees the coaching staff becoming "lab rats like the rest of us (players)."
It is true in many cases that the change of owners leads to overhauling of the entire team. For example, Jacksonville Jaguars’ former owner sacked the head coach Del Rio and others just before selling his franchise to the new owner Shahid Khan.
Khan interestingly has not gone for any rash changes in the side this year but he can be expected doing so if the team fails again under the present leadership.
Jimmy, who was formally introduced on past Friday, has already spoken of seeing his franchise to be consistent winners on the field. He did not elaborate about the changes he might be making to make it happen. No one knows at the moment which strategy he
has for the Browns in his mind.
He sounded to be looking for wining players, and they could be star performers like Peyton Manning or others. In that case the job of the new quarterback Brandon Weeden is also on the line, while incumbent QB Colt McCoy is already facing exit.
