Question:

Change the color of "black bars" on Media Player Classic to prevent PDP burn-in?

I'd like to change the horizontal black bars (widescreen movies) and vertical black bars (SD TV shows) to a lighter color to prevent burn-in on my plasma. I use Media Player Classic. Is there any method of changing the pure black to a lighter color? Also, will doing these adversely affect my viewing experience?

  1. To change Player background color

    1. In the Player, on the View menu, point to Enhancements, and then click Color Chooser.

    2. In the Color Chooser Enhancement pane (below the Details pane), clear the Use black as Player background color check box.

How ever I am not sure if it can prevent burn-in. Burn in is caused by any kind of image or text which stays static on the screen for along time I am not sure if it is related to color. I know the earlier models of Plasmas have burn-in problem but the newer ones have some kind of pixel shifting technology so that  the static content is moved slightly to prevent burn-in. This movement is not noticeable to the eye.

OK for Media Player classic I don't see an option to change the background color. Did you try going to view > videoframe > and choose "stretch to window" this would stretch the current video to the edge removing the black bars.  Not sure how much distortion  the stretch would cause but worth a try. Also selecting "touch window from outside" would clip a portion of the video at the top an bottom to fit the video in the screen without bars on the side. again depending on the original video size it might clip too much of the video.
