Changes for Tampa Bay Lightning gets them back to winning ways (Part 5)
Coming to the conclusion of the reasons that have played a huge role in putting Lightning in the position they are at the moment, we reach the last part of the series.
The addition of Eric Brewer is considered as another important factor in Lighting’s improved form. With the addition of Dwayne Roloson in the team in the goalkeeping department, the addition of Eric Brewer in defence has boosted Lightning’s confidence as
well.
Brewer was brought into the team on the 18th of February, trade deadline, and he hasn’t disappointed so far. The depth and skill that this player has brought at the backline of the team has had a tremendous affect on Lightning’s performances.
He has been practicing a lot which has helped the team’s defence get better.
In fact he is one of the best defensemen in NHL this season and has combined with Mattias Ohlund to be the best defensive pair, keeping the damage minimum when it comes to the power-plays.
"We needed somebody that was going to be able to log a lot of minutes, have the speed to play against top lines that are fast, have the size to play against bigger lines, be able to play in the power play and the penalty kill and have leadership", Boucher
said. "So if you put that down as a shopping list, that's a pretty big shopping list”.
Looking at all the reasons as a whole shows the big picture. Lightning has not only made changes to become one of the best teams on ice but off-ice as well. They have included one of the best players in defence, best goalkeeper in offence and in return Lightning
is in a Stanley Cup winning position.
The Lightning team, at one point struggling with the goals against average, has Roloson maintaining the best goals against average of 2.17 along with the best saves-percentage in the play-offs.
Earlier Lightning used to panic when it came to defending and if they didn’t have the puck they were faced with immense problems.
However, they have managed to change this as well and now they seem to be comfortable with or without the puck. The team is effectively going in a direction where it is important for the puck to be successful rather than any individual looking to take the
spot.
This has worked for Lightning so far and if they continue likewise, they will undoubtedly win the Stanley Cup this time out.
