Changes in world rankings help Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods drops again
Phil Mickelson has reached in the top 10 by delivering his best in the current season, whereas Tiger Woods has dropped to the twentieth.
The Official World Golf Ranking recently released the list, showing that the positions of both the Americans have changed. Mickelson currently stands at the 9th position and Tiger is at the 20th.
One player has improved and the other has fallen. This change is attractive for Mickelson and has also motivated him to improve further, whereas Tiger's dropped ranking is raising concerns regarding his performance.
Mickelson has played five events in the 2012 events. He started Professional Golf Association 2012 season in January by appearing at the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation.
He then entered the field of Farmers Insurance Open and failed to make the cut. He was unable to impress the spectators by his performance in both events.
However, later, at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, he displayed an improved game and finished tied for the 26th.
In February, after Phoenix Open, he reached the Pebble Beach and won the title by a remarkable 17-under 269. He recorded his first 2012 win so early, which helped him improve his position in the OWGR.
He nearly won the Northern Trust Open, played a week before, but lost the title in the play-off phase.
He was tied with Bill Haas and Keegan Bradley for the first position. Haas won the title by scoring before the other two players.
Displaying such an outstanding performance in the last two tournaments helped the American to push up his ranking.
Now, Mickelson is left with ample chances to improve further and reach the top 5 in the OWGR.
On the other hand, Tiger was at the 18th but now he stands at the 20th position. He only played two events this year, one at the PGA and other at European Tour respectively.
He started his season by playing Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and finished at the third position. Later he moved to US and played PGA event AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
He finished tied for the 15th position at Pebble Beach and was unable to win any of the tournaments.
This factor took a toll on him and now he needs to make extra efforts at every tournament he plays.
This year is amazing for Mickelson. However, Woods should try to be more impressive and he should only focus on his game, so that he can be in the top 10 soon.
