Question:

Changing Brake Pads on a 2004 Mustang

I'm trying to change my brake pads on a 2004 ford mustang. I've gotten it all taken apart and now I'm trying to push the piston back to its full open position but it won't go. I've tried using a C-clamp to do so but it just isn't working. What should I do? Is there some special way to push it back I don't know about?

  1. First you have to buy a brake bleeder cuz what your going to have to do is unscrew the s***w for the break line so it relieves the pressure off of the piston so then you should be able to push it back in or use the c-clamp then when you've done that to all of the wheeles you have to bleed the air out of the break lines. the best thing i can tell you to do is go buy the mustang maintance book and read in there about bleeding the lines cuz i dont know how to explain it.

  2. Open the bleeder valve is not the recommended to repair this concern. If it is the front brakes you are referring to then you have a stuck caliper piston and need to replace it. If it is the rear brakes then you do need a special tool to s***w it back into the cylinder. Never on a ford should you have to open the bleeder valve to get piston back into cylinder of the brakes. It is a froze/stuck piston and will only stick in place when you attempt this.Depending on model you have then it will have to be screwed back into the cylinders.

Hope this helps and have a great weekend.
