Question:

Changing DVD region on computer?

I've just changed the DVD drive from region 2 to region 1 to play an american dvd. I did this on windows media player as it automatically came up as the only way to play the dvd. The notification also said that the region can only be changed 4 times. Is there any way to change it more times than that?

  1. Computer DVD-roms are region free,I have played dozens of movies from overseas.I really don't know what are you talking about

  2. If you change it five times and want to do more you can download the firmware for your DVD - do a google search - and run it (flash your drive). Should reset everything.

  3. No.  After that it locks in the last one and stays there.

  4. After 5 times you can no longer change it and will become permanent.

But, most freeware and open source DVD players ignore region coding. Most commercial players are locked to a region code, but can be easily changed with software.

Other software, known as DVD region killers, transparently remove (or hide) the DVD region code from the software player. Some can also work around locked RPC-2 firmware.

One can circumvent the region coding of a DVD disc by burning a copy that adds flags for all region codes, creating an all-region DVD. DVD backup software can do this, and can usually remove Macrovision, CSS, and disabled user operations (UOPs) as well.

  5. VLC Media Player plays all regions
