Question:

Changing MTB tires to hybrids?

Hi,

I want to change my MTB tires to hybrid for city usage.

What are some good tires to buy (can you provide link)? I want them to be puncture resistant and be thin enough for a good speed.

I don't want to spend too much money also.

Thanks

  1. I have some Geax StreetRunner (26 x 1.25). They are very good, and I can inflate them up to 100 PSI, so they are hard to puncture.

  2. been in your situation and fixed it....

i bought a tioga city slicker for 16 dollars a piece and it works fine.......

  3. Lots of options for tires nowadays.

Two that I've used that are puncture resistant are :

    Panaracer T.Serv ... and

    Bontrager Hard Case Race Lite

Both are about $30 apiece and well worth it.

  4. If you can get or find them, Avocet Cross K's 1.5 inch are the best tires I ever found.  But for some reason, they are limited in availability.  They're made for mountain bikes, but are designed for 85 p.s.i.  They have a kevlar belt in the tire, never had a flat.

Michelin Transworld City tires 1.5 inch and 1.9's. have given me good service too.

  5. I did that with my mountain bike..  My MTB has standard 26-inch-diameter wheels, and the skinniest slick kevlar-lined tires I could find for it in my area is the Specialized Armadillo Nimbus.  These are 1.5-inch-wide slick tires, cost me $70 for a pair.

I've had the Armadilloes for 3 years already and I haven't gotten a single puncture, and this is in New York City where I jump curbs and often roll over broken glass.  No pinch-flats either because I keep them properly inflated.
