I will change planes in Amsterdam and then fly into the UK. When I get off of said plane do I have to reclaim my luggage or do they take care of it for me? Also will I have to go through the customs in both Amsterdam and the UK? If anyone has any airport information on Amsterdam please send links. Thanks.

  1. Depends if you're changing airlines or not, if not then it will be labeled all the way to Manchester and you just pick it up at the final destination or you're changing airlines then you'll need to pick it up in Schipol and recheck it in with the other airline.

To previous poster, why did you fly Manchester to Athens via Schipol?  You can fly direct to Athens from Liverpool with Easyjet which is just down the road from Manchester.

  2. You won't have to get your luggage as long as it's just a plane swap (and not an overnight stay, for example)

but yes you will have to go through customs.

I was there last week and am still angry- I was flying from Manchester to Athens, via Amsterdam, and we bought a load of drinks in Manchester airport (after customs). They were on special offer in WH Smiths... anyway, we got to Amsterdam and had to go through customs, and they wouldn't let us take our drinks in... even though I offered to drink some of it to show there was nothing in it.

Even worse, in Athens airport on the way back, they wouldn't let me take an empty bottle through customs because 'it had the potential to hold more than 100ml'... so do my hands but they didn't make me give those up. Then they charged us £2.20 for a 500ml bottle of coke! Outrageous!

So anyway, yes- you will have customs at each airport (scanners and frisking etc) but no, your luggage stays in their care
