Question:

Changing Rocker Cover Gasket...?

I have had to order a new rocker cover gasket for my nissan serena 1994 and have been told it is farily easy to change yourself so I am willing to give it a go, I am just wandering if there is anything I need to watch out for whilst doing it or any vital things I need to unplug or disconnect before doing so?

  1. No, very straightforward: Just undo any clips or pipes directly in the way of the rocker cover, then unbolt the cover & swap the gasket.

Make sure that the gasket surfaces are clean - use a wooden or stiff plastic scraper if you need to, so you don't damage the alloy head. Clean the mating surface on the bottom of the rocker cover too.

  2. be careful not to drop anything down the engine when rocker box has been removed

  3. No very easy, even a woman could do it.

  4. When re-installing the valve cover, always remember to start with inside bolts (center)  and work out to the outside bolts. Tighten them snug first and then tighten down, again from the center bolts to the end ones. This will insure a good seal with no warping.

ALSO MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE "ALL" THE OLD GASKET . TO PREVENT FUTURE LEAKS
