Question:

Changing VW stickomatic to manual?

Got a good deal on a 74 bug. They told me they had the tranny and motor worked on. at about 35mph the rear wheels locked up. Motor ran when in neutral, but would lock up when shifting. Car has sat for 10 yrs. Body straight, interior very good, glass good, all rubber needs replacing. Need info as to practicality of changing to manual trans, or what might be causing it to "lock up?" not running now. Could a mechanic "easily" figure out whats wrong if I get motor running?? Is changing to manual a good idea? Cost? Thanks lots!! Checked Archives alraedy.

  1. You need to find out if the clutch cable tube is in the tunnel. Most do have it but not all. Then you get a tranny, a pedal ***'y, a clutch cable and all the parts for the clutch including a flywheel. Try this website for more info and help. Use the search function before posting questions, they get testy over there if you don't.

The dang filter won't let you abbreviate assembly.
