Changing a Canada study visa to a work permit?

Can I change a Canada study visa to a work permit? Can that be done? I read somewhere that you can change the status of your visas? I'm trying to get an idea of my options. I live in the US right now and I want to move to Canada the easiest way I can. Is getting a study visa and going to school a better choice than trying to get a job offer for a work permit? I want to eventually apply for permanent residency.

  1. Personally speaking, I would think that going to school in Canada first would be easier. After your first semester (or year) of studying, you can apply for a part time job. Some majors offer co-ops that could lead to a permanent job after graduation. You need to work several years before you can apply for citizenship so working while going to school should help.  The website below has a slew of information that outlines the process for applying to school in Canada - working while at school - and links to other websites which outline various processes (including  student study permits and work visas). Good luck.
