Changing a Video tape to a dvd?

Question

I have a bunch of tapes to change to dvd. Problem is I cant figure out how i have a dvr and the tape player hooked up to the tv but one has to be set on one type of channel and the other something different and i dont know what to do.I also want to be able to watch the tapes while i change them to dvd. Is there any possible way for this to happen??

I did this with a bunch of my old home videos.  I had to purchase a DVD recorder.  It doesn't work with a DVR as far as I know.  Once you have the recorder, you hook up the VCR to the recorder and the recorder to the tv and you can watch and record at the same time.
