Hi, im pretty new to this and i have a 1971 1302LS Cabriolet LHD, im inherited it from my great uncle and im only 18, i drive it really carefully but as i have not had a chance yet to earn good money its really me and a haynes manual when it comes to it.

Anyway oil is/was leaking really badly from behind the fan cover and underneath the connection with the generator. so ive removed the air filter and carb easily enough with the manuals help. It then says to remove the generator harness and the 4 bolts that connect it to the fan cover. Did this and tried to remove but the manifold pipes prevent me from actually pulling it out. I may be being really stupid here but it says in the haynes manual it should just come out. It moves as if to come out but the manifold gets in the way. If anyone could help me out with this i would be very grateful. Thanks

Simon

  1. The Haynes Manual will be for a different engine.

The Manifold you mean is the Inlet Manifold is it not? If it is then it is held in by 2 x 13mm bolts, they will be easily accessible since you have removed the generator. I`ve not done this for a long time, so please don`t take it as being deadly accurate as its from memory.

However, it would have been easier just to take the engine out completely in the first place. That is a 5 minute job.
