Question:

Changing a/c pump on 97 Ford Expedition Help?

I am about to remove and replace a/c pump on my 97 Ford Expedition. 5.4 liter v-8. The new compressor comes without oil. I know how to put PAG oil into the system when charging but how do I prime the system when installing. One part of the directions says to prime the compressor, dryer, and condensor prior to starting. And then another part says must charge with r-134 coolant before oil. WHAT> Any help would be much appreciated. My wife is getting impatient in this Las Vegas heat with no ac. (especially when the pump went out while I was using her truck on a fishing trip)

  1. Add oil first before charging. I think you may be able to get R-134 with oil in it. Good luck. Jake.

  2. when your pump failed it was still working  so it had r134a in the system now that hade all the pag oil that it needed. so when you install the new compressor put an once or 2 in the compressor and that will be perfect. oil always goes in first the rest of the system already primed and just recharge. write me back if you need more help done these tons
