  1. you just switch, you do not have to mix it with the old formula if you don't want, you can just switch to the new one.  it can take at least a week for the baby to get used to the new formula.

  2. It is actually best not to mix because if they take a reaction it is hard to know if it was from mixing or the new formula. My peditrician said to never mix just switch- we have been switching my girls formula every few months slowly getting her use to digesting milk based formulas. The best is simply change the formula. It will take a few days for your baby to adjust though.

  3. You can try to switch...just go straight for it.  Sometimes soy formula can also cause constipation though.

  4. well you should switch it cold turkey. If it is the cows milk giving him the problem, then a "cold turkey" switch should help ease him. however, if you find that it is not working, he may have a hard time taking in the proteins or breaking them down. If this seems to be the case, try something by Similac called Allimentum or Enfamil's Nutramagin (sp). It has cows milk in it, but it is broken down for your baby so that he can digest it properly. Both of these formulas still have iron ion them. They are costly though, but if digestion is the problem, you may be better off with these formulas instead.

  5. Gradually change the formula. Do half of the old half the new and gradually use less of the old formula.

If you just switch your baby may get an upset stomach, or he could handle it well, but why take the chance, just gradually switch him.

  6. I would start by slowly introducing.  Mix half and half of the two types of formula..... and slowly up that the soy formula in the bottle until he is drinking all soy.

  7. Hi, I had a similar problem and I decided to change formulas as well. We just did it one day, although I would recomend doing it in the morning just in case baby's tummy doesnt agree with new formula and you wont be up all night. We were also told to try Soy formula but my baby did badly on it ( major constipation and spit up) so we tried a lactose free formula and it was like a different baby! He is so much happier and his constipation is gone and so are his little belly aches, Its okay to try different formulas until you find one that suits your baby best, good luck and I hope it works out for you!

  8. uhhh you just change it. give baby different formula.

  9. Try Similac Isomil. It comes in a red can and it is soy. I too did not make enough breast milk and then realized that my daughter was straining and constipated on regular formula so I switched to Similac Isomil and now she is fine. Once you switch then, it may take three to four days for their systems to adjust, so don't be alarmed if you don't see a p**p during this time.

  10. You could try cold turkey and just switch but that might upset babies tummy. If it does, try mixing the formulas at first. Do a couple ounces of regular and a couple of soy and slowly increase the amount of soy and decrease the amount of regular. Hopefully that will minimize the upset tummy and constipation. Good luck!
