  1. best to get in touch with insurance company, they will probably charge you a cancellation fee and maybe take some of the refund (unless it was less than 2 weeks ago in which case you should get a full refund) - just a heads up, stay well away from MyMotorQuote insurance, these guys are terrible, i joined 3 months ago and since then theyve added £1k on to my premium and stil havnt sent me a insurance certificate

  2. based upon my own experience, here is a good resource that I have good luck with and would like to share with.http://car-insurance.online-tips.info/ca...

  3. For car insurance the quick way to get a good quote is do a policy comparison on car policies. Make certain that you choose similar policies with the same limits, car make, zip code, etc so that all things are a good comparison.

What I always recommend is an internet comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have big name insurers and can give multiple quotes on car insurance polices.

  4. Before you change, make sure that the new company (where you got the cheaper quote) has done all the underwriting and checking of your current claims/driving history.  Otherwise, the quote may not be firm, and they may raise your rates or even decline to cover you after they review it.

Also, if you have prepaid your insurance with your current carrier, you would eventually get some refund from the company after you cancell, but not until they have kept every penny they are entitled to for the policy term that has already passed.  In some cases, there may even be up front fees and commissions that you will not get back.  So it is always better to change companies at the renewal date (or at least not pay ahead) if possible.  You will most likely have to make a down payment for the new coverage in order to initiate the policy, but you will have to wait to get any refund you have coming after the old company receives the cancellation request.

In other words, make sure that you have been completely up front and honest with the new company before you sign any papers or pay anything down, and make sure that the quote is firm & it will really still save you money (and be comparable coverage) after you have switched.  If the accident was fairly recent, and depending on the disposition of the claim, it is possible that it has not all appeared on your record just yet, and it will make your rates jump up with either the new OR the old company at some point in the future.  One way to find out is to ask the new company's agent what information they found on your driving/claims report (called a C.L.U.E. report)--ask them to disclose to you how it may be affecting your quote and rates with the new company.  If they haven't run this report yet, don't get your hopes up that the cheaper quote is firm.
