Question:

Changing from a labret to horse shoe lip ring?

I've had my labret for about 4 months now, I change the bar & stud periodically. I decided I wanted to try something new, and get a horse shoe lip ring- It was nearly impossible to get it in & took me a little while. While I was trying to get it in- a very thin layer of skin had already grown on the front, so I had to push it through the skin. Ever since I put it in, It's been red & tender.. I wash it & gargle w/ salt water. How long will this last? & I'm pretttyy sure its not infected. HELP!

  1. ouch!! why did u get a lip ring? well it kinda sounds like the first steps of infection . . . but i am sure that if u keep washing it with salt water  it will be fine. in the meantime however i suggest asking someone that can see it and physically help u. i find that typically ends up working a little better :) well i hope u find out if its ok!!

  2. dont worry itll go away in a week or two. treat it like you would if you jut got it done.

  3. It will last as long as it lasted when you first got your lip pierced. You've irritated the piercing. You've shoved through skin. It's going to hurt for a bit. My guess is that it will cool down after a week or two.

Just keep it clean. I'd recommend getting some Bactine as well for the outside of the peircing. Some people will say that Bactine causes infection, but it's worked great for me. I've had no problems with it.. Using it once or twice a day  will relieve pain and keep it clean. Don't overuse it though. That's when infection can happen.

I hope everything works out for you.
