Question:

Changing gates at O'Hare in the same terminal

I'll be arriving from an AA flight at gate G20 (from Canada) and leaving on an AA flight at gate H16. Both legs were booked on the same ticket and my luggage will be going straight through to my final destination. Is 30 minutes enough time to get between gates? Will I need to go through the security checkpoints again and check in for my next flight or do I just go straight to the gate and give them my boarding pass?

Thanks!

  1. You will not have to go through security again. Just check the TV monitor for your next flight to make certain that it is still at the same gate that you were expecting it to be, and go to that gate. Give them your boarding pass when you are boarding the aircraft.

  2. 30 minutes is not much time and you will have to hustle to get there.  G20 and H16 are on opposite ends on their respective terminals.  The good news is that most flights out of O'hare are late anyway so you might be in good shape.  Tell the flight attendant on your inbound that you have a tight connection.  They might allow you to exit earlier than the others.

  3. BakedNBlended is right. You couldn't have any more distance between gates at Terminal 3 at O'Hare. 30 minutes is enough time to make your connection provided your inbound flight isn't late. If your Canadian flight lands at gate G20 then that means you'll go through American Customs & Immigration at your Canadian departure city. You will not have to go through security again to connect - unless you leave the sterile area. Gate agents at your connecting flight will keep an eye on your inbound so they'll know exactly when you land and they'll be expecting you. Weather and the availability of seats on subsequent flights will determine whether or not they wait - most of the time they do.
