Changing gear shift without stopping ?

my automatic transmission car has Gear 1,2 D3,D4, my underground parking has a very steep hill , so normally I start with gear 2 or D3, when I drive to highway, I just found that I forgot changing gear to D4, can I change gear to D4 without stopping the car? because on highway it is impossible to stop. thank you and looking forward to your answer.

Yes and you can do it at any speed and it wont hurt the vehicles transmission, the only thing it will hurt will be the gas mileage.

Yes, and when going down a steep grade in the mountains you can change to a lower gear while the vehicle is moving.  You do not have to stop when changing the forward gears, only when you change directions in vehicle you have to stop completely and change gears.  So if backing out of parking spot then you need to stop and place gear in drive to move forward otherwise you will waste the tranny.

yes you should be able into any upward gear without stopping or slowing down with an automatic transmission.but too be sure i would let off the gas the first time. d4 is just an over drive gear.
