Question:

Changing jobs in the USMC?

I wanted to get a position with intel. However the school is booked and my ship date is in 4 days. My recruiter told me that after serving in the corps for two years, I could get a job change. But a friend of mine who has already served for 6 years tells me otherwise.

Can I get a second opinion on this please?

  1. When I went in, I was told I'd be in the aviation field.  I didn't wwant that.  My recruiter told me there was nothing I could do about it.  I said to forget it, then,  I'd stay home.  Within a day, he got my specialty changed to computers.

I probably was legally obligated to go, but he probably didn't want the administrative hassle I was about to cause him.

USMC - best job I ever had.  Semper Fi!

  2. Your friend is correct, If you are placed in a critical MOS you will not be able to leave it and also it depends if the Intel MOS has a vacancy which is slim to none. If you spoke a foreign language now such as Arabic it would be a shoe in.

    Good Luck

  3. This is why you do not ship to boot camp unless you have the job you want..

You are not gonna change nothing in 2 years or 3 years for that matter..Im glad you waited 4 days before you ship to ask this question.

If your not happy with your job then DONT ship..You have every right to change your MOS before you leave for boot camp..otherwise enjoy your time in a MOS that you did not want..
