Changing my Alltel phone and plan?

I am on the Smart Phone plan, which is way too expensive. Can I change it to a simpler, regular plan, and just purchase a different phone? The people at alltel tell me i cant change off the smart phone plan, since i have the 2 year contract. But online, the Alltel site says you can change your plan anytime, to suit your lifestyle. Is this true!? Also, is tthere any where that I can get a different phone that will be cheaper than buying one from the store? thanks!

you should be able to because these are what i found off there faq page

You can change your plan at any time by calling 1-866-Alltel7 or visiting an Alltel store.

A: You have the freedom of changing your plan at any time throughout the duration of your contract.
