Changing my daughters last name?

My daughter carries her fathers last name but he has been completely out of the picture for more than 2 years. I recently found out that he moved across the country and I haven't had any contact with him. I would like to change it so she has my last name. Does anyone know how to go about changing her name? I live in CA.

Leave the kids name alone!

he contributed the better half of her genes, you really should just hand him custody, you get a job and pay HIM  child support!
