Changing sewing machine in cabinet

Question

I had an old Singer that is ailing, so I got a different machine for a reasonable price. The new one is a Kenmore, and I was wondering how/if I could install it into the cabinet since the shape of the machines is different?It wouldn't have to be in the cabinet, but can a machine built for that be able to be used on just a flat surface? It looks like the bobbin area and such would get in the way.
