i own a suzuki rf 600 and it needs a new chain and sprockets i have read somewhere that increasing the back sprocket on this bike helps with accelaration, which it could do with as nothing really happens intill you hit 6000 revs , but when i went to the bike shop he only had a smaller frount sprocket and the original back one and he said it would give the same affect is this true . please help very confused

  1. yes... it is true. since what you are looking for is a change in ratios.... a rule of thumb is that for every three teeth you add to the rear is like removing one from the front.... please bear in mind that this is not hard and fast....just an aproximation....

it is easy enough to do the math..... take the number of teeth from the rear and divide by the teeth on the front....  now do the same with the new gears.... the closer to 1 you get the more top end.... the closer to 0 you get the more torque which translates to more quickness and less top end.....

  2. You will get better acceleration by changing sprockets, if i wanted better acceleration i would practice better clutch throttle control believe me it works.

    Nearly bought RF600 once

  3. smaller front = more bottom end

larger front = more top end

smaller rear = more top end

larger rear = more bottom end

  4. Don't be confused.Since the beginning of time its always been the same.Larger rear sprocket=more bottom end.And the less top-end.It however does not always make the bike faster.that is a mythical beast. And yes...a smaller front sprocket equals its counter part.(usually 2-3 in the rear = 1-tooth in the front)If you want more performance,A jet-kit ,air-cleaner& exhaust is advisable.
